PET/CT (positron emission tomography (PET) in combination with computed tomography (CT)
PET/CT has been an integral part of oncological and neurological diagnostics for 25 years, and is now stipulated in many treatment guidelines. Private insurance companies cover the costs of PET/CT for oncological, infectious, rheumatological and neurological issues. PET/CT examinations have been carried out at our Praxis im KölnTriangle for more than 20 years. All consultant specialists in our team are experienced in PET/CT diagnostics.
We carry out PET/CT examinations for, among others, the following conditions – all of which are covered by German private insurance companies:
Lung cancer (NSCLC and SCLC) – F18FDG-PET/CT for initial staging, recurrence staging, therapy follow-up. SPN (solitary pulmonary nodule) – F18FDG-PET/CT for characterizing the nodule and for localization diagnostics before a biopsy.
Sarcoidosis – F18FDG-PET/CT on the question of cardiac involvement with suppression of cardiac glucose metabolism through a high-fat diet and with ECG gating, organ involvement, skeletal involvement Lymphoma Disease (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin) – F18FDG-PET/CT during initial staging, recurrence staging, therapy follow-up.
Malignant melanoma – F18FDG-PET/CT during initial staging, recurrence staging, therapy follow-up.
Breast cancer – F18FDG-PET/CT during initial staging, recurrence staging, therapy follow-up.
Rectal cancer – F18FDG-PET/CT for recurrence staging and to rule out further metastases before planned liver metastasis surgery.
Sarcomas –– F18FDG-PET/CT in particular metastasis.
Prostate cancer – F18PSMA -PET/CT during initial staging in high-risk situations, biochemical recurrence for localisation diagnostics, if necessary in combination with F18-FDG-PET/CT for assessing castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRCP), before PRRT (a form of internal radiation therapy) with lutetium-PSMA.
Brain tumors – depending on the nature of the tumor, different tracers are used for PET/CT:
F18-FDG for radiotherapy planning
F18-Dopa for biopsy planning (instead of F18 FET) and for recurrence diagnosis
Cardio-PET – F18FDG-PET/CT as the gold standard for vitality diagnostics, if the tracer flurpiridaz is approved in Europe also for perfusion analysis with and without drug exposure.
Focus search – F18FDG-PET/CT for fever of unknown origin and leukocytosis to assess endocarditis, implant infection, abscess search.
Rheumatism – F18FDG-PET/CT on the question of large vessel vasculitis, synovitis, arthritis, myositis, F18-Florbetaben to assess amyloidosis.
Dementia diagnostics: F18-FDG for the characterization of objective memory disorders, amyloid PET/CT with F18-Florbetaben (Neuraceq®) to assess Alzheimer’s disease or other amyloid-associated diseases.
Parkinson’s diagnostics: F18-F-DOPA for quantifying nigrostriatal degeneration, on the question of Parkinson-PLUS syndromes, F18-FDG-PET/CT on the question of Lewy body dementia.
Depending on the question at hand, CT is carried out with PET as a low-dose CT to correct attenuation, or as a diagnostic CT – if necessary with a contrast medium. We use dual-point imaging, i.e. PET images are made at a later point in time, to improve the confidence of the findings.
Appointments for F18FDG-PET/CT and F18PSMA-PET/CT whole-body examinations can usually be arranged within a few working days. F18 FDG-PET/CT examinations take place every week. F18PSMA-PET/CT examinations take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and can be arranged within a few working days.. F18 Dopa brain PET/CT examinations are carried out weekly, with a lead time of 1-2 weeks, depending on the availability of the tracer. Ga68 PET/CT examinations are currently not available because the tracer is not available.
The cost for a whole body PET/CT scan ranges between EUR 2200 and EUR 4000 depending on the tracer to be used, additional imaging of body parts i.e. head, heart, thorax, abdomen, pelvis region, additional diagnostic CT, supplementary standardized reports.
